• Congressman James Gallagher introduces Representation Act to bring more transparency to redistricting (actionnewsnow.com) — New federal legislation from Congressman James Gallagher aims to protect communities like Chico and Paradise from being split during congressional redistricting by requiring states to map and respect local "communities of interest." Chico Builders Association director Katy Thoma and other North State leaders say the bill could strengthen representation for rural, fire-impacted, and tightly connected school and economic regions across our area.
   

• One person transported to hospital after rollover crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Orland (actionnewsnow.com) — A rollover crash on southbound I-5 north of County Road 27 near Orland sent one passenger with minor injuries to Enloe Health in Chico Tuesday morning. CHP says the driver looked down at a navigation app, swerved to avoid another vehicle, and lost control, sending the car across the median and northbound lanes before it came to rest on the shoulder. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.
   

• DA Ramsey charged her. The city paid her $325,000 (chicosol.org) — Chico has paid $325,000 to settle a federal excessive-force lawsuit brought by a young woman injured during a 2023 DUI arrest involving then–Sgt. Mark Bass. The case, widely documented in ChicoSol videos, raised questions about police conduct, juvenile charges, and oversight. City Council is also set to discuss a separate wrongful-death suit tied to Bass in closed session, keeping Chico's policing practices under close scrutiny.
