• Fuel reduction projects underway in Butte County foothills (orovillemr.com) — Cal Fire crews are actively thinning brush and dead trees in the Butte County foothills, including major fuel‑reduction projects near Paradise, Magalia, Oroville and Cohasset that help protect the wider Chico area. Contractors are clearing thousands of acres, building fire breaks on private land, and preparing piles for burning once conditions are safe, with more prescribed burns planned this fall.
   

• Redding to Sacramento in fewer stops with new Route 5 bus (actionnewsnow.com) — New Route 5 express buses between Redding and Sacramento are reshaping North State transit, and earlier changes to Route 3 in Chico helped pave the way. Chico riders now benefit from better Glenn Ride and Amtrak connections, with more direct options to Sacramento, the airport, and statewide rail for work, school, and travel.
