1. Call for Nominations: Honorary Doctorate Awardees and Distinguished Alumni (csuchico.edu) — Chico State is calling on campus community members to nominate candidates for honorary doctorates by October 30, 2026, and Distinguished Alumni Awards by November 13, 2026. These honors spotlight people closely connected to Chico State whose achievements reflect the university's values, with final selections announced in spring 2027 and alumni celebrated at a March 2027 ceremony.
2. Butte County vets: Habitat for Humanity wants your help Sept. 12 (actionnewsnow.com) — Local veterans are invited to a free Habitat for Humanity R.E.D. Day of Service on Sept. 12, with a build day at a site in Chico or Paradise. Volunteers will work alongside Habitat's construction team to help create homes for local families, with lunch provided and no construction experience required. Space is limited, so interested veterans should register online soon.
3. Preparing for Ridge Children's Christmas Party (orovillemr.com) — The Paradise Elks Lodge has donated $500 to help fund food and supplies for this year's Ridge Children's Christmas Party on December 5, which serves hundreds of local kids with gifts and treats. Readers across the greater Chico area are also invited to submit people-focused community photos to snapshots@chicoer.com for possible Monday publication.
4. OroDam Cruisers donation (chicoer.com) — OroDam Cruisers recently donated $500 to the Northwest SPCA, and the Chico Enterprise-Record is inviting locals to share similar community moments. Residents can email high-resolution photos with a short description to snapshots@chicoer.com for possible Monday publication, as long as they feature people at current, non-business events.
