1. Chico State enrollment keeps climbing, but remains below pre-Camp Fire levels (mynspr.org) — Chico State is welcoming nearly 16,000 students this fall, signaling a continued rebound in enrollment even though numbers still trail pre-Camp Fire levels. Students cite affordability, internships, and the Chico campus environment as big draws, while President Steve Perez says stabilizing enrollment and improving the university's budget are top priorities this year.
2. BCAG seeking input on Chico-Oroville B-Line bus service (actionnewsnow.com) — Chico and Oroville bus riders are being asked right now to help shape future B-Line routes, frequencies, and coverage through a short online survey. Planners are testing two contrasting concepts—one favoring frequent service on busy streets, the other wider neighborhood coverage—and say Chico residents' feedback will directly influence the final network design.
3. New grant supports animal care organizations (plumassun.org) — A Chico-rooted animal care fund at North Valley Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications from groups in Butte, Glenn, Tehama, Colusa and Plumas counties. Local shelters and nonprofits can seek $1,000–$5,000 to support food, shelter and medical care for animals, thanks to a legacy gift from two longtime Chico residents.
4. Wildfire Grants Support Butte, Colusa Projects (colusacountynews.com) — Based in Chico, the North Valley Community Foundation is directing over $131,000 to wildfire prevention and preparedness projects across Butte, Glenn, Tehama and Colusa counties, including defensible space work for vulnerable residents. Several Butte County groups are getting new equipment, prescribed burn support and disaster-readiness funding that Chico-area residents may benefit from during future fire seasons.
5. Scholar Athlete of the Month: Xiomara Gonzalez (actionnewsnow.com) — A Core Butte Charter School senior from the Chico area is being honored as Scholar Athlete of the Month for juggling three sports, a 3.9 GPA, and leadership in FFA. She's eyeing an NICU nursing career, including an upcoming internship at Enloe Hospital in Chico, while savoring her final year of high school competition.
