Chico Marketplace to add entertainment center as malls nationwide shift away from retail (actionnewsnow.com) — Chico Marketplace on East 20th Street is adding a large Go One Adventure Park in the former At Home space, aiming to keep the mall a family destination as retail changes. The 42,000-square-foot youth-focused entertainment center is projected to open in summer 2027, joining other experience-based options and giving Chico families another place to play and gather.
   

2. Downtown Chico's Melody Records celebrates 26 years (actionnewsnow.com) — Downtown's Melody Records is celebrating 26 years on Main Street, still thriving on word-of-mouth and loyal Chico customers instead of flashy advertising. Owner Ray Coppock credits the vinyl resurgence and supportive neighbors like Duffy's bar for helping the shop endure shifting economies while continuing to attract Chico State students and longtime local collectors alike.
   

3. Chico Police arrest man for stealing vehicle from Wittmeier Auto Center (actionnewsnow.com) — Chico Police arrested 37-year-old Michael Hubburt after a vehicle was reportedly stolen from Wittmeier Auto Center on Forest Avenue early Thursday morning. Officers later spotted the white sedan on Nord Avenue, chased the driver on foot, and took him into custody without further incident, with additional charges still under investigation.
   

4. Chico State Students Fly Drones to Count Walnuts (csuchico.edu) — Chico State engineering and computer science students are flying AI-guided drones over the University Farm to help walnut growers more accurately predict crop yields. Their grant-funded project could reduce costly guesswork for North State orchards, while giving students hands-on experience with drone piloting, machine learning, and real-world agricultural challenges that matter across the region.
   

5. Solar farm tentatively planned for Skyway (chicosol.org) — A massive 1,200-acre solar farm proposed off Skyway could become Butte County's first large-scale project, with power and potential cost savings aimed at Chico and county residents. State-level approval means local officials can't block it, so upcoming public meetings in Chico will be key chances for residents to weigh in on wildfire risks, tree loss and community benefits.
