1. Chico State police chief finalists: Jeffrey Durkin (theorion.com) — Chico State is weighing four finalists for its next University Police chief, with Chico Police Lt. Jeffrey Durkin kicking off a series of public forums on campus. Durkin emphasized community policing, more foot and bike patrols, better communication, and safety initiatives like Moonlight Safety Walks and expanded de-escalation and mental health training for officers and resident advisors.
   

2. Relax with a Furry Friend at Wags 4 Wellness! (csuchico.edu) — Chico State students can unwind with friendly therapy dogs at Wags 4 Wellness, held in The Well at the Bell Memorial Union on multiple Thursdays through December. The program offers low-key, drop-in puppy cuddle sessions to ease stress, and organizers encourage anyone needing accommodations to reach out in advance so all Chico participants can fully enjoy the experience.
   

3. Nome Cult Walk crosses Mendocino National Forest this week (actionnewsnow.com) — An annual ceremonial Nome Cult Walk is underway this week, retracing a historic forced march from Chico to Round Valley through Mendocino National Forest and nearby highways. Forest officials are coordinating safety, warning local drivers on routes like State Route 32 and FH7 to slow down and watch for walkers as tribal members honor ancestors and shared history.
   

4. Wildcats drop third straight heading into conference play (theorion.com) — Chico State women's soccer dropped its third straight match, losing 2–0 at University Soccer Stadium but now turns to a key home conference opener Friday against Cal State East Bay. Players say they're focused on finishing chances after generating limited offense, and Chico State students can attend free with a student ID or Canvas home page.
   

5. Much of Northern California Is Under a Red Flag Warning Through Monday. Here Is What That Means. (activenorcal.com) — Chico sits inside a Red Flag Warning zone through 5 p.m. Monday, with strong north winds and very low humidity raising the risk of fast-moving grass and foothill fires. State and local crews have surged into nearby counties, burn bans are in effect, and residents are urged to avoid any spark-creating activities and stay alert to county fire and power shutoff updates.
