Chico police arrested 16-year-old after shooting prompted shelter-in-place (krcrtv.com) — Residents near Ceres Avenue and Garden Park Drive in Chico were ordered to shelter in place after an early-morning assault and shooting on Oct. 5, but police say there is now no ongoing threat. Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy, recovered two firearms, and forwarded the case to Butte County authorities for possible charges.
2. Chico High students return to class after lunch fight (actionnewsnow.com) — Students at Chico High briefly sheltered away from the courtyard Tuesday after a lunchtime fight drew a large crowd and triggered a caution alert. Chico Police and school staff quickly intervened, directed students back to class, and lifted the alert within about 40 minutes, with officials emphasizing that everyone on campus remained safe.
3. New businesses open in downtown Chico (actionnewsnow.com) — Downtown Chico is seeing a small wave of new openings, including Ethically Made, a sustainable clothing and gift shop, and Sign Club, which offers ASL classes and workshops. Owners hope later hours, classes, and coordinated events will draw more locals downtown, while the city tracks vacancies and the Downtown Chico Business Association offers free marketing support.
4. Colby Mountain Trailfest (chicoer.com) — A new trail-running festival near Jonesville raised about $10,000 for Butte County Search & Rescue, Chico Velo Trailworks, and the Bidwell Run Club, with organizers later gathering at The Commons in Chico to celebrate. The snapshot also invites locals to submit their own community photos, as long as they feature people and current events, for possible publication.
5. Run club donation (chicoer.com) — Chico Noon Exchange Club members recently hosted Girls on the Run of the North State's director to spotlight the program's work with third- through eighth-grade girls across Northern California. During the meeting at Canyon Oaks, organizers presented a $3,200 donation from Chico Brewfest proceeds to support the group's confidence-building, running-based curriculum.
