Roundabouts spark debate as Citrus Heights Gateway trail project advances (citrusheightssentinel.com) — Citrus Heights is moving ahead with its Gateway Activation Project, which could add three new single-lane roundabouts and separated walking and biking paths along Old Auburn Road and Wachtel Way. City leaders say the changes aim to slow traffic, improve safety, and eventually link local trails to a regional network reaching toward Folsom Lake and Lake Tahoe, though construction funding is still pending.
2. Citrus Heights spay neuter clinic Exec Director remains upbeat as $457K construction contract awaits approval (citrusheightssentinel.com subscription) — Citrus Heights is close to approving a $457,000 construction contract to remodel the former Citrus Heights Preschool on Old Auburn Road into a low-cost cat spay and neuter clinic. FieldHaven Feline Center's director says she's optimistic as bids are in, design plans are nearly finalized, and city staff seek council approval on Sept. 9, with a separate building slated for future Animal Control services.
3. At 104, Citrus Heights resident Dorothy Lunsford keeps life full of family and adventure (citrusheightssentinel.com) — A 104-year-old Citrus Heights resident, Dorothy Lunsford, is celebrating her milestone birthday while still enjoying salon visits, time at Folsom Lake, and family gatherings from her ADU home in town. Her story highlights decades of local family traditions, from boating and waterskiing to museum visits, and shows how multiple generations now pitch in to support and celebrate her active life.
4. Bill to revamp Sacramento homeless policy is on Newsom's desk. What would it do? (sacbee.com) — Citrus Heights could be required to join Sacramento County and nearby cities in a new joint powers authority overseeing homelessness funding and planning if Gov. Newsom signs SB 802. Supporters say the regional board would improve coordination, while county leaders warn it could add costly bureaucracy and potentially spark legal challenges over state authority and local control.
5. Southern Californian spicy chicken restaurant to open location in Natomas (sacbee.com) — Citrus Heights residents already have an Angry Chickz on Sunrise Boulevard, and now the spicy chicken chain is adding a new location in North Natomas later this month. The Nashville hot chicken spot, which recently opened in Rocklin, continues its Sacramento-area expansion with bowls, sandwiches, and heat levels ranging from mild to "angry."
