• Council Approves Funding Awards for Service Organizations (citrusheightsmessenger.com) — Citrus Heights City Council just advanced nearly $750,000 in federal and local grants to support youth mentoring, food access, senior nutrition, housing help, arts, and community gardens serving residents. Councilmembers also reviewed storm-readiness plans, confirmed free sandbag locations, opposed expanding home-based micro-restaurants, and celebrated Citrus Heights' new "Just Serve" city designation that connects locals with volunteer opportunities.
• APA Sacramento Valley Section Honors Urban Planners (citrusheightsmessenger.com) — Citrus Heights residents may be proud to know their Community Development Department earned the Planning Agency Award of Merit for turning long-term goals into real-world improvements. The regional APA Sacramento Valley awards also highlighted innovative transportation, downtown revitalization, and concert venue projects across nearby cities, underscoring how thoughtful planning is shaping growth throughout the greater Sacramento area.
• One injured, pets rescued, from apartment fire in Citrus Heights (citrusheightssentinel.com) — An apartment fire near Sylvan Road and Old Auburn Road in Citrus Heights left one resident with minor burns and heavily damaged a unit, but firefighters rescued a dog and cat that are expected to be fine. Metro Fire is using the incident to remind Citrus Heights residents to install and regularly test smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and level of their homes.
