City Of Citrus Heights: Multi Modal Transportation Safety Program - Quarterly Safety Improvements

The General Services Department regularly receives requests for new signs, striping, crosswalks, speed humps, and traffic enforcement. The majority of these requests are in response to resident concerns of vehicle speeds and right-of-way violations on residential roadways. The Multi Modal Transportation Safety Program (MMTSP) includes guidelines and procedures to initiate and prioritize requests, as well as to evaluate and recommend appropriate countermeasures to address safety concerns. Once requests are prioritized and countermeasures determined, the City will implement traffic safety improvements as the budget permits. We are excited to share the following list of locations and improvements that were installed for the first two quarters of the year and program:

Sungarden Dr. & Sunrise Blvd. – When cars are parked along the curb near the intersection at Sunrise, it is difficult for vehicles driving through to navigate safely around the parked cars. As such, the following safety improvements are scheduled to be implemented:

● Installation of red curb along the south side of Sungarden

● Install red curb along the curb return on the north side of Sungarden

● Remove a portion of the existing yellow centerline and restripe to align with natural center of the street.

Spicer Dr. & San Juan Ave. – Speeding/vehicles driving in parking lane.

●  Install bike lanes on Spicer from San Juan to Sperry

●  Install ‘STOP’ sign and Legend on Chipping Way at Sperry

Terrell Dr. – Speeding of vehicles coming from Greenback Ln.

● Install a centerline to define the travel lanes (By narrowing travel lanes, drivers naturally tend to drive slower.)

● Install bike lanes (Installation of bike lanes further define the travel lane and enhance safety for bicyclists.)

● Install red curb

Red reflective posts on ‘STOP’ signs will be installed at the following intersections to improve visibility and reduce moving violations:

● Butternut Dr. & Roseville Rd.

● Butternut Dr. & Villaview Dr.

● Mariposa Ave. & Prince St. at northbound and westbound approaches

● Flaming Arrow Dr. & High Sun Ct./Big Arrow Ct.

● Parkoaks Dr. & Meadowcreek Way

The budget for minor roadway improvements under the MMTSP is predominantly supported by Measure A Traffic Funds as well as other revenue sources.
