“I am truly honored to be recognized as one of the 2014 Women of Worth and so grateful that L’Oréal Paris is shining a light on the important issue of human sex trafficking which is happening in our own backyards,” said Jenny Williamson, honoree and founder of Courage Worldwide. ““I hope that my work to rescue and provide a safe refuge for victims of human trafficking and the stories of the other Women of Worth will inspire others to fight for change and make a difference.”
“Each year, we are moved and inspired by the thousands of powerful stories we receive through the Women of Worth nomination process. These women are wielding their passion to make an incredible impact on their communities, and beyond,” said L’Oréal Paris President, Karen T. Fondu. “The 2014 Women of Worth honorees are heroic, fearless and true changemakers who deserve to be celebrated, and their stories elevated, to inspire more women to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Jenny Williamson – WOMAN OF WORTH
Jenny Williamson, founder of Courage Worldwide, first learned about human trafficking when she was listening to a sermon at her church. Repulsed and heartbroken by the fact that her hometown was a major hub for sex trafficking, she was determined to do something about it.
Jenny started Courage Worldwide with the mission to build homes for children rescued out of sex trafficking. The organization operates two homes for rescued children – one in Northern California and one in Tanzania, Africa. The homes offer focused trauma therapy, an on-site school and a variety of classes so each girl is thoroughly equipped, encouraged and empowered to begin her journey of healing and restoration.
HONOREES
Jenny’s fellow honorees all set the bar for extraordinary philanthropic efforts. From fighting drug addiction and helping homeless veterans, to distributing diapers mothers in need, the other nine 2014 Women of Worth honorees include: Corinne Cannon, Founder and Executive Director of DC Diaper Bank; Stephanie Decker, Founder of The Stephanie Decker Foundation; Shaaron Funderburk, Founder of Off the Streets Program(OTSP); Mary K. Hoodhood, Founder and Director of Kids’ Food Basket; Rachel Jackson-Bramwell, Founder and Executive Director of Project Compassion; Deborah Snyder, President and CEO of Operation Renewed Hope Foundation; Phyllis Sudman, Co-founder of Simon’s Fund; Brittany Wenger, inventor of Cloud4Cancer; and Audra DiPadova Wilford, Founder of MaxLove Project.
