Man Pleads Not Guilty In Deadly Pomona Crash That Killed 2, Including Pregnant Woman

The suspect was leading police on a pursuit before the crash, police said.

POMONA, CA — A man who allegedly led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended with a crash that killed two people, including a pregnant woman, pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and other charges.

Marshall Campbell Judson, 31, is charged with two counts of murder, one count each of murder of a human fetus, assault upon a peace officer or firefighter and carrying a concealed, loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle and three counts of fleeing a pursuing peace officer's motor vehicle causing death.

He has remained jailed without bail since his arrest shortly after the April 1 crash.

The Pomona Police Department said officers responded that night to a domestic violence call in the 400 block of East 10th Street, about a quarter-mile east of Garey Avenue.

"When officers arrived and were speaking with the victim, the suspect returned to the location in a truck, driving recklessly and intentionally struck a parked patrol vehicle," according to a police statement. "The suspect then fled the scene, initiating a police pursuit."

Judson allegedly fled through the residential neighborhood, failing to stop at stop signs, briefly crossing the double-yellow lines entering opposing lanes of traffic and reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph in a posted 35 mph zone, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

He allegedly broadsided a vehicle driven by Marc Anthony Trejo Saldivar, 26, who was with his girlfriend, Jennifer Alejandra Loera Zarco, 25, who was nine months pregnant, with a due date 19 days later, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision near the intersection of Garey Avenue and County Road, authorities said.

In a statement last month, District Attorney Nathan Hochman said, "The senseless death of a young couple just weeks away from the birth of their first child is heartbreaking and enraging. Jennifer Loera Zarco and Marc Trejo Saldivar had their whole lives ahead of them ... I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims' families and their entire community devastated by this enormous loss."

Judson is due back in a Pomona courtroom July 13, when a bail review hearing is expected. A date is also scheduled to be set then for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to allow the case to proceed to trial.

He could face a maximum of 57 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.
