CLAREMONT, CA — Claremont Hills Wilderness Park closed Sunday because of anticipated rain and high winds associated with Tropical Storm Rachel, the city said.
The closure is intended to protect visitors and minimize potential damage to the park's trails and natural resources during the storm, the city announced on Sunday.
The National Weather Service forecast periods of rain and high winds beginning Oct. 10 with a high likelihood of precipitation Oct. 11 and additional showers expected Monday.
The weather conditions could create hazardous trail conditions, including fallen trees, flooding, slippery surfaces, muddy terrain, reduced visibility and increased runoff.
Park visitors were advised to avoid the area while the closure is in effect.
The city did not say when the park would reopen.
