Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run that Killed 2 Year-Old Boy

Authorities say the driver was going 40 mph in a 25 mhp zone.

An arrest was made in the hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old boy in San Bernardino, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Jonathan Montes was playing catch with a friend on Sept. 1 in front of his home on Perris Hill Road, near Base Line Street, when he was struck by a motorist.

The impact threw Montes more than 100 feet into the roadway, the boy’s uncle told KABC Los Angeles.

Montes was hospitalized with multiple injuries and died on Sept. 4.

The driver was likely going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, the CHP told ABC News.

Details of the arrest will be made public at a 3 p.m. press conference Wednesday, the CHP said.
