Arsonist Sets Fire to Claremont Village Business
An awning over Lizzie's Goldmine on 2nd Street suffered was burned.
Claremont police are searching for the man suspected of setting fire to the awning of Lizzie's Goldmine at 262 2nd Street in the Village.
A witness called police at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday reporting a man using a cigarette lighter to start the blaze. The fire destroyed the awning and damaged its frame, the shop's sign and part of its roof, accoring to Dan Metire, the owner of the jewelry shop.
"No idea, I have no idea," Metrie said on why someone would target his business, which has been located in the Village for 30 years.

Los Angeles County firefighters put out the blaze, but not before the fire caused $2,500 to $4,000 worth of damage, Metrie said.
Police are still searching for the suspect. He was described as black, thin, about 5-foot-10 and in his 40s. He wore a green beanie and a black, hooded, zippered sweatshirt. He drove away from the scene in a two-door, silver Toyota or Saturn.
