Baby & Toddler Gear Rental

You're probably bombarded with holiday ads so far so I'll get to the point. If you're a parent or grandparent you might find this interesting.

I work with a baby gear sharing economy company called Babierge (Baby + Concierge). It's like an Airbnb for baby and kid gear. I rent gear to traveling families and local grandparents with visiting grandchildren in the San Gabriel Valley.

I got involved in gig-economy work because I wanted to start a business that worked around my life as a parent of twin four-year-olds, and I've always imagined being in the concierge business.

Babierge allows families traveling with babies and children to rent the gear they'll need while on the road. In a nutshell we have a network of gig-economy "Trusted Partners" who rent, deliver and setup all the baby and child gear families need while on the road. They return to pick it up on departure day. It allows families to get first-rate gear without stuffing it in a full-car or wrestling with it at the baggage carousel.

A few more details: gear includes full-size cribs, high chairs, strollers, car seats, potty chairs, infant swings, stools so toddlers can reach the sink to brush their teeth, books, games, toys, outdoor play gear and beach packages. Cribs are my number one rental!

When we launched as a startup this year we thought it would be a hit with parents. But we were pleasantly surprised to find that grandparents were also renting gear for grandchildren visits. That way they don't have to buy-and store-all that expensive gear. It also helps that they don't have to set it up.

We're in 16 U.S. markets right now, more than 20 by Christmas. Since launch we've rented about 7,000 pieces of gear.
