Bonita head coach honored with award and win
Bonita beats West Covina and extends winning streak to seven.
By Elsie Ramos
Bonita baseball handled Hacienda League opponent West Covina (13-8) easily Friday, 7-2, to improve its record to 18-2, but that was not the only thing the Bearcats had to celebrate. Head Coach John Knott learned just hours before the game that he was named the 2013 California Baseball Coach of the Year by the California Coaches Association.
“It’s quite an honor,” Knott said. “I didn’t expect it. I got the letter today and I was completely shocked. It’s neat, but it’s really indicative of the team of the year; in the sense that the team went 31-2 (in 2012), won the CIF Championship, and played at Dodger Stadium, so I think that it represents them just as much.”
