Burglars Target Three Claremont Businesses Over Weekend

Three more businesses were broken into prompting Claremont's Chamber of Commerce to urge owners and operators to attend a upcoming conference on how to better protect themselves.

Burglars struck several Claremont businesses over the weekend prompting yet another crime alert from the city’s Chamber of Commerce and a reminder that on Wednesday there will be a chamber-hosted presentation on how business owners can protect themselves.

Three burglaries, in which intruders smashed in glass doors, were reported, according to Chamber of Commerce officials.

Sometime between 11 p.m. and 5:27 a.m. on April 13, the front glass door of the Kicks shoe store, at 448 Auto Center Drive, was smashed in. It was not immediately known what if anything was taken, officials said.

About 3:20 a.m. the same day, the front glass door of The Last Drop Cafe, at 119 Harvard Ave., was also smashed. Claremont Police are checking into what was taken there, officials said.

About 5 a.m. on April 14 the front glass door of Dr. Burwell’s dental office, at 2050 N. Mills Ave., was shattered. It was unknown if any property was taken from that business, officials said.

These are the lates in a string of break-ins and burglaries in the city over the last few months. Police and the active Chamber of Commerce have been putting out alerts to let business owners know to be on the lookout. Police are also conducting a presentation at 8 a.m. on Wednesday on how these businesses can protect themselves. For information on that event, click here.

Claremont detectives are continuing their investigation into the break-ins. On March 3, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials arrested three men, two from Corona and one from Victorville, on suspicion they committed several burglaries in Claremont and surrounding towns. Though those burglaries may be primarily home burglaries, officials said.
