Residents with citrus trees may be contacted by the California Department of Agriculture as inspectors look for a disease that is killing citrus trees. Department of Agriculture staff are inspecting citrus trees for a disease called Huanglongbing (HLB) and the insects that carry the disease. HLB kills citrus trees and there is no cure.

Properties are chosen at random and inspectors typically choose trees that are located in the front yard. While surveying a property, the inspector will collect the insects, if found, and any symptomatic leaves on the tree. The samples will then be submitted to the lab for testing. If the test comes back positive, the homeowner will be notified in person. If homeowners have citrus trees in the backyard they wish for to have inspected, they can call (800) 491-1899 to schedule an appointment. For more information, visit CaliforniaCitrusThreat.org.
