Reducing energy use in our homes has environmental benefits, such as reducing greenhouse gas emission from carbon-based energy sources.  It can also save you money, as reducing our energy use results in lower electricity bills.

Here are some energy-saving tips:

  • Cook with your microwave or outdoor grill to keep your home cooler.
  • Set the thermostat to 78 degrees when you are home and 85 degrees or “off” when you are away.
  • Give your air conditioner a rest when you can, and cool your home with open windows and fans.
  • Replace incandescent light bulbs with more efficient LEDs.
  • Close your blinds to keep out the afternoon heat.
  • Plug home electronics into power strips and turn off the power strips when the equipment is not in use.
  • Unplug electronic devices and chargers when they aren’t in use.
  • Give your dryer a break and hang-dry clothes.
