Starting January 1, 2022, the State of California will mandate that all cities implement a universal organic material recycling program. Organic material primarily includes green/landscape waste and food waste.  To meet the new requirements, residential customers will begin placing their food scraps in their green waste container for pickup. The material will be taken to a composting facility for more sustainable processing, substantially reducing methane emissions from landfills. For cleanliness, residents may choose to bag food waste in clear plastic bags when needed. The plastic bags will be removed at the composting facility. The City is currently offering this service as a pilot program to 15% of customers, and the program will be expanded effective January 1. Additional information regarding the program, its environmental benefits, and how to participate will be sent to customers via mail this Fall and made available on the City website. We look forward to serving you!  Please contact the Community Services Department with any questions at (909) 399-5431.
