Did you know up to 30% of the material recycled in Claremont is trash? Claremont residents can cut down on recycling contamination by following the below tips:
Place recyclables loosely in the recycling container for collection. Do not bag recyclables in a trash bag. Bagged recyclables are discarded as trash at the recycling facility.

- Remove plastic bags from junk mail, newspapers, and magazines. Paper sealed in plastic bags will be discarded as trash at the recycling facility.
- Keep caps on water bottles, it helps the recycling center’s sorting equipment to sort the plastic effectively.
- Flatten cardboard boxes before placing them in the container. There is no need to remove labels or tape from cardboard.
- Make sure all items are clean and dry, but labels do not need to be removed from any item.
As an additional reminder, residents should only be recycling the materials detailed below. Any other items should be discarded in the trash container:
Plastic jugs, bottles, and jars (plastics #1 and #2 only)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Paper, paper boxes, and cardboard
- Cans (soup cans, beverage cans, etc.)
