The US Forest Service will be working with LA County Fire to reopen overgrown fire break lines on US Forest Service land immediately adjacent to the Wilderness Park beginning August 5, 2021. Crews will be using bulldozers to clear vegetation from the fire break line. The crews will be accessing the land from Sunset Peak and moving down towards the Wilderness Park.

Cutting fire lines helps mitigate the spread of future fires in the area, particularly in areas where the terrain makes fighting fire difficult. This work is not done in response to the current Antonio Fire burning in the Angeles National Forest. There is no immediate threat to the Wilderness Park from the current fire.

The dozer lines will extend into the Wilderness Park near Mt. Baldy Road in Evey Canyon and in the northwest corner of the Wilderness Park.
