Claremont: AARP Tax Aide – Limited Services This Year

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and remote tax assistance free of charge to anyone, with a special focus on taxpayers who are 50 or older or who have low to moderate income. Tax preparation assistance through AARP will be limited this year as their volunteers operate at reduced capacity. While many volunteers will be preparing taxes 100% remotely, a few local sites will have preparers helping in-person with COVID-19 safety protocols in place or via a document drop-off. If you are interested in requesting AARP Tax Aide's help this year, you can request an appointment by filling out the form at the following link: Tax-Aide: Tax Preparation Assistance Request Form (aarpfoundation.org). An AARP representative will be in touch with you within a few days after submission, according to the site. We advise that anyone filling out the form specify their needs or limitations in the "Do you have any special requirements?" field, knowing the three potential ways that appointments are being carried out.

Since appointments with tax preparers will be limited this year, AARP has shared other alternatives for filing.

If you are computer-savvy, you can prepare taxes yourself with the virtual guidance of a tax preparer. This would involve screen-sharing on a video chat platform (like Zoom) and scanning your tax documents into an electronic form.
