It is time to adjust irrigation timers due to shorter day lengths and longer, cooler nights. As the weather and days grow shorter, moisture does not evaporate as fast as it does during the warmer months. Over watering can have as much of a detrimental effect, if not more than under watering. By monitoring your turf watering not only are you conserving water, money, and helping to reduce water runoff. Water runoff causes pollutants to enter our rivers and streams. It may also cause standing water in the curb and gutter which is a perfect environment for mosquitos to breed.

A good rule of thumb is:
Walk across your turf, if you do not see your footprints after 2-3 minutes as the turf springs back upright, then your soil moisture is currently good. After 5-6 minutes passes and you still see impressions of your footprints, then your turf needs additional water. If you walk across your turf and it is squishy or you sink in reduce water immediately you have over watered. These are a few tips, landscape needs change daily so adjust accordingly.
