December 03, 2020

The City of Claremont, in response to the revised L.A. County Health Order issued on November 22, sent a request to Supervisor Hilda Solis asking for special consideration of Claremont’s relatively low COVID-19 figures and the lifting of restrictions on Claremont’s restaurant community.

The request detailed the impact of business closures on the City, small business owners, and the many community members the restaurants employ. Claremont restaurants have invested a considerable amount of money to provide safe outdoor dining opportunities and comply with the County safety protocols.

Today, Acting City Manager Adam Pirrie and Acting Assistant City Manager Jamie Earl met with Supervisor Solis’ staff to discuss the City’s concerns. City staff and the Supervisor’s staff met at length for a productive discussion on the impacts of the Health Order on the local economy.

However, in light of the increasing COVID case rates around the region and the Governor’s announcement today of another possible Stay at Home Order, the Supervisor’s staff was unable to consider granting a variance to allow easing of the Health Order for Claremont and surrounding cities at this time.

The Supervisor’s staff discussed potential grant opportunities for restaurants and other resources available for small businesses.

The City would like to thank Supervisor Solis for her responsiveness and receptiveness to meeting and continuing to dialogue with the City of Claremont.
