Per the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the biggest threats to public safety and well-being on our roadways. Just like drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs is a crime – even if your impairment is due to prescribed medications, illicit drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana – medical or recreational. In 2018, 42% of all drivers killed in motor vehicle crashes, who were tested, tested positive for legal and/or illegal drugs.
