Household hazardous waste (HHW) may be disposed of at a Hazardous Waste Roundup operated by Los Angeles County. HHW includes any product labeled: toxic, poison, combustible, corrosive, flammable, or irritant. Common types of HHW include paints, pesticides, lubricants, drain cleaners, fluorescent light bulbs, and batteries. Los Angeles County recently re-opened collection events with COVID-19 safety precautions in place. Please visit www.cleanLA.com or call 1(888)CLEAN-LA for more information regarding acceptable items and upcoming events.
The City also offers a free, curbside program to responsibly dispose of used motor oil. Used oil can contain such contaminants as lead, magnesium, copper, zinc, chromium, arsenic, chlorides, cadmium, and chlorinated compounds. Oil poured down drains or onto the ground can work its way into our ground and surface waters and cause serious pollution. One gallon of used oil can foul a million gallons of drinking water. To participate in this free and easy collection program, please contact the Community Services Department at (909) 399-5431 to request collection containers or to coordinate a no contact curbside pickup.
