Claremont Hills Wilderness To Expand Thanks To Pomona College Donation

Claremont Hills Wilderness Park will have over 450 acres added to the park land thanks to a generous donation from Pomona College.

CLAREMONT, CA — Do you love hiking and walking the varied trails in Claremont Hills Wilderness? That land is about to get bigger, thanks to a donation from Pomona College it was announced on Tuesday.

"The Claremont Wilderness area is a natural jewel and provides an important connection to nature," Pomona College President G. Gabrielle Starr said in a recent statement.

Claremont's Mayor Larry Schroeder also discussed the city's long-standing commitment to preserving the open space and providing access for residents.

“The land donated by Pomona College is a valuable addition to our Wilderness Park and will be enjoyed for generations to come,” Schroeder said.

This addition expands the park's acreage to almost 2,500 acres, Patricia Vest of Pomona College said.

"The land will be preserved in its undeveloped state and remain available to the public for recreational use," Vest said.

Evey Canyon, three Padua Hills parcels are the land that will be added, according to Vest, who also said that the donation does not include a purchase, however there will be administrative costs associated with the transfer.
