Claremont: Not All Yard Waste Belongs In The Green Container

Please contact the Community Services Department at (909) 399-5431 with any questions regarding proper sorting.

February 09, 2021

The City’s curbside green waste program is an excellent way to divert material from the landfill, but not all yard waste should be placed in the green container. Palm fronds, ice plant, succulents, cacti, and bamboo should always be placed in the black trash container. The same is true for pet waste, dirt, and rocks. Placing non-compostable items in the green container can lead to increased disposal costs, driving up the cost of service. Appropriate products for the green waste container include grass clippings, leaves, chipped wood, and small branches (less than 4 inches in diameter and two feet in length.) Green waste should be placed loosely in the container for servicing with no bags. Please contact the Community Services Department at (909) 399-5431 with any questions regarding proper sorting.
