Claremont Restaurant Gets Scammed Out of Almost $1,500

The co-owner of Bua Thai Cuisine says someone posing as a Southern California Edison employee demanded that the restaurant pay its electric bill.

A thai restaurant in the Village was scammed out of $1,450 on Tuesday after a person claiming to be a Souther California Edison employee called demanding payment on an electric bill.

According to The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Pat Chan, a co-owner of Bua Thai Cuisine on First Street, said a woman called and told an employee that the power would be shut off in 20 minutes if she didn't recieve payment on the restaurant's electic bill.

Chan said he panicked. He was instructed by the woman to purchase a Green Dot prepaid debit card at CVS and tell her the numbers on the card.

Chan only discovered the scam after rechecking his bank account.
