Claremont Super King Market Security Guard Shoots Suspected Car Thief

A Claremont grocery store's security guard repeatedly shot a man Tuesday suspected of breaking into a car, according to police.

CLAREMONT, CA — A grocery store security guard shot and wounded a man suspected of breaking into a car Tuesday in Claremont.

Claremont police received several 911 calls around 8:45 p.m. about a shooting that had just occurred at Super King Market, located at 436 Auto Center Drive, said Claremont police Sgt. David Hardin.

Arriving officers found a man down, suffering from several gunshot wounds, Hardin said. He was treated at the scene then taken to a hospital for injuries that were deemed not life-threatening.

Investigators learned a store employee told the security guard that she saw a man trying to break into her vehicle, Hardin said.

The security guard went outside to stop the man and during the confrontation, the guard fired several shots, wounding the suspect, Hardin said. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the guard to shoot.

The guard was cooperating with police and the shooting was under investigation, Hardin said.

No charges have been filed, he said.
