Grid 6 and 7 Tree Trimming

The City’s contracted trimming company, West Coast Arborists (WCA), is currently pruning trees in Grid 6. This is the area between Base Line Road and Foothill Boulevard, between Towne Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard. This work began in early November and will progress through the new year. Once Grid 6 is complete, WCA will begin Grid 7. Grid 7 is the area between Base Line Road and Foothill Boulevard to the easterly City boundary. WCA is currently working in the area east of Lewis Park, between Base Line Road and Foothill Boulevard.

All City trees are pruned on a regular basis using only the highest professionally accepted standards, and in a manner that will encourage good development while preserving their health, structure, and natural appearance. During this time, traffic control will be in place and minor traffic delays may occur. Since this activity may result in some noise and extra traffic during this period, we ask for your patience and understanding.

Tree Removals

Along with tree trimming, WCA is working on tree removals. City trees are removed if they are determined to be dead, diseased, or hazardous. WCA is currently removing trees in Grids 6 and 7. Trees that are scheduled for removal in these areas will not be trimmed. Trees will be replaced as part of the annual reforestation program.

Reforestation

The Community Services Department is planning for the City’s annual reforestation program. Normally, new trees are planted between the months of October – April because the cooler weather gives the young trees the best chance of survival. However, due to the warmer weather, we have delayed planting until February.

Currently, the City is using grant funds to plant trees as part of the reforestation program. The grant requires that the trees are no larger than 15 gallons in size. If residents would like a larger tree, they may use the Residential Pay Program to purchase one.

If you are interested in obtaining a new City tree, please contact Cari Dillman, email provided below, by March 1st so new tree(s) can be planted before the planting season comes to an end.
