Charter Oak High School is honored to partner with the American Cancer Society and the NFL’s Crucial Catch Program. For those of you that haven’t heard, Crucial Catch is the partnership between the National Football League and the American Cancer Society wherein they are committed to saving lives from cancer. Through fundraising, education, and awareness initiatives, Crucial Catch focuses on the prevention and early detection of multiple cancers, including but not limited to breast cancer.
Yesterday, our varsity football players and a handful of coaches had the opportunity and honor to participate and serve at the Crucial Catch:” Huddle to intercept Cancer Event” held at the Los Angeles Charger stadium. Our student-athletes volunteered at stations and assisted current and former cancer patients with care packages, food, and activities throughout the day. Our very own Coach “Big Lou” was in attendance and at the end of the event was presented with two Super Bowl tickets from the owner of the Chargers, who is a breast cancer survivor herself. (See below picture) Yesterday was a powerful day for everyone there and we have already received feedback from the NFL, American Cancer Society, and Los Angeles Chargers that they were highly impressed with how our students conducted themselves which is a direct reflection of our Charter Oak family.
On Friday, October 18th, we have a home Football game vs. Diamond Ranch. The NFL and Los Angeles Chargers have selected Charter Oak High School to be the Crucial Catch game. There will be both representatives from the American Cancer Society and Los Angeles Chargers to help facilitate this event. The unfortunate truth is that over the years our Charger Family, as well as our personal families, have been impacted by cancer. We know that everyone has a story and we would like to take this opportunity to recognize and celebrate those stories. We are inviting members of our Charger family (staff, community and/or family members) to join us during a pregame ceremony at 6:30 pm on Friday, October 18th.
