Covina Center for the Performing Arts celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Beatlemania Oct. 25 - 27
With the 50th Anniversary of Beatlemania only a few months away, a nationally touring Beatles band, Abbey Road, brings their three costume change concert to the Covina Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, October 27 at 7 pm. Abbey Road's shows on October 25 and 26 are sold out.
In early 1964, News In Brief put it this way: “There are rumors abound that the [Beatles] are Britain’s revenge for the Boston Tea Party.”
In mid-December 1964, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” began playing on U.S. radio stations. Two months later, Liverpool’s Beatles first set foot in New York and charmed America at their first press conference, but the British Invasion officially began when the Fab Four sang four of their original songs (“All My Loving, “She Loves You,” I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand) on the February 9th airing of The Ed Sullivan Show. This performance alone captivated 60 percent of the American viewing audience and before you could say “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” Beatlemania swept the country.

Within a matter of weeks, the Beatles went from complete unknowns to household names in the U.S. At one point in the spring, the band held down all top five positions on the Billboard “Hot 100,” a feat not accomplished before or since.

With their tight harmonies, flawless note for note renditions of Beatles hits, custom–tailored costumes, vintage instruments, Liverpudlian dialect and precise attention to every detail, Abbey Road has honed their show to become one of the most musically and visually satisfying Beatle tribute acts in the world. Abbey Road recreates the magic, music, wit and charm of the Beatles, including the Fab Four’s cheeky personalities, familiar onstage banter and patter between songs.
“The show delivers!” said the L.A. Times. “This is the ticket for you,” said the Idaho Statesman. In addition to the Belly Up, Abbey Road is a nationally touring band who headlines Knott’s, Harrah’s Rincon, Harrah's Tahoe, The Coach House, The Canyon Club and Pala Casino. The band performs 150 high profile engagements across the country each year. The band's next stop is a three month residency at the Harrahs Reno showroom.
Three costume changes cover the full range of the Beatle experience and beyond, with authentic early black Beatle suits, Sgt. Pepper’s regalia and Abbey Road attire. Hear the piccolo trumpet solo on Penny Lane and the full orchestration of A Day in the Life. Relive the emotional intensity of Paul’s moving Yesterday solo, as well as the high energy of stadium songs like Twist and Shout and other Beatle hits.
