Have Coffee With A Cop, Build Community In Claremont

"Coffee with a Cop" is one way for police officers to build relationships with the community members, one cup of coffee at a time.

CLAREMONT, CA — On Wednesday March 15, 2017, the Claremont Police Department will be holding their inaugural “Coffee with a Cop” event. “Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.

There are currently more than 175 cities in 36 states that participate in “Coffee with a Cop” events every week.

Part of the Claremont Police Department’s Strategic Vision is Community Outreach and “Coffee with a Cop” is one way for police officers to build relationships with the community members, one cup of coffee at a time. The majority of contacts law enforcement have with the public occur during emergencies or emotional situations.

Those situations are not always the most effective time for relationship building and some community members may feel officers are unapproachable on the street.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Claremont Police Department through relaxed, one-on-one interactions. There is no agenda, no guest speaker, and no power point presentation: just coffee and conversation.
