Bonita comes from two games down to outlast Los Altos 19-25, 24-26, 25-11, 25-18, 15-6 in CIF Div 2A first round, hosts Windward Thursday

HACIENDA HEIGHTS – The Bonita Bearcats needed five games in order to dispatch of the host Los Altos Conquerors 19-25, 24-26, 25-11, 25-18, 15-6 Tuesday evening in a CIF Division 2A first round match.

Both teams are no strangers to each other as they faced each other for the 2009 CIF Division 3AA finals, and were league foes up until this season. Los Altos remained in the Hacienda League, while Bonita was put into the newly formed Palomares League.

Riley Inman led the way for the Bearcats, who entered as the third place team from the Palomares League. Inman had 11 kills, two blocks and an ace. Carrie McGlohon tallied eight kills, while Jennifer Aregelander and Morgan Vaughn added seven kills and a block each.

Los Altos won the first set somewhat easily 25-19; although Bonita wouldn’t go away the final couple of points as Vaughn, Sierra Martinez, and Argelander each contributed a kill before Mieyra Rojo’s kill for the game winner.

Rojo finished with nine kills, three assists and a block for the Conquerors who entered the match as the first place team from the Hacienda League.

In a close second game both teams had mini runs, but it was a Bonita service error and then a hitting error at game point to help Los Altos emerge 26-24.

Bonita opened the third game with a bang, and then went on an 8-2 run and never looked back as they went on to win the set 25-11. Inman had five of her kills in the third game as well as an ace to lead the way.

Bonita used a 12-3 run in the fifth and deciding set to take the match. Vaughn had two kills and a block at match point.

Bonita’s season ended thursday, losing to #2 seeded Winward 25-19, 9-25, 16-25, 21-25.  The Bearcats finished (14-12, 5-5 Palomares).
