Man Suspected of Walmart Burglaries Involved in Chase

The pursuit started on Interstate 15 with San Bernardino Sheriff's and passed through Interstate 210 and Upland and La Verne.

A high-speed chase that began when deputies tried to stop and question a man in connection with thefts at a Rancho Cucamonga Wal-Mart ended 60 miles away in Encino tonight when the suspect steered the SUV he was driving onto a dead-end street and was taken into custody.

The chase began around 9:15 p.m. Aug. 9 when San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the suspect in connection of reports of thefts from a Wal-Mart near Foothill Boulevard and Interstate 15 in Rancho Cucamonga, said Jody Miller, public information officer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The chase reached speeds of 100 mph at times on the westbound Foothill (210) and Ventura (134 and 101) freeways. The suspect exited to streets in Encino and was taken into custody at the point of deputies' guns around 10:10 p.m., according to broadcast reports.

The suspect was a parolee at large and the SUV was reported stolen, Miller said.

The man's name and age were not made available.
