'Mommy Fell Into The Pool!' 5-Year-Old Saves Mom From Drowning

"Please hug your loved ones a little closer tonight," a Claremont husband and father said of his brave sons who saved their drowning mother.

CLAREMONT, CA — A father and husband in Claremont is counting his blessings after his two sons saved their mother from drowning in the backyard pool three weeks ago.

On the last Saturday of July, mother Susan Law was in the backyard with her 5-year-old son, Benji when she fell into the pool and nearly drowned. Susan cannot swim, husband David Law told Patch, but her little boy's bravery saved her life.

Quick thinking Benji ran into the house to get his big brother, Morgan, 12.

"Very important! Mommy fell into the pool!" Benji said.

Morgan, a "decent swimmer" according to father, David, jumped into the pool and pulled Susan's "lifeless body" to the side.

"She was unconscious," David told Patch.

Benji held his mother's head above water while Morgan called 911. First responders arrived and transported Susan to the hospital, where she stayed overnight. She was alive.

"The police, paramedics and firefighters called the boys 'heroes who saved their mom,' my wife," David said. He was "completely in awe" that the boys were able to "focus and rise to the occasion," calling 911 and relaying their emergency clearly to the authorities.

Now, David is on a mission to tell everyone their story, and remind adults that they must not only keep the pool safe for kids, but they should know how to swim, as well.

For Susan, each day is a gift. She never thought she would be in this situation, and the knowledge of her son's bravery has changed her perspective, as well as that of her husband.

"My wife is slowly recovering, but without the boys she would not be with us today," he said.

According to her husband, Susan appreciates the little things more, and she is eternally grateful to her brave sons who came to her rescue.
