A City Council Meeting tonight at the council chambers, 207 Harvard Ave.
The regular meeting of the city starts tonight at 6:30. A special closed session meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. The City Council will be reviewing the proposal to implement residential permit parking on 10 streets in the neighborhood adjacent to the Claremont Wilderness Park, according to City Manager Tony Ramos.
This week’s Movies in the Park event will be held at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave. The featured film is scheduled to be “Wreck It Ralph.” Movies in the park are held Tuesdays at dusk and are presented by the Police Department. They feature family-friendly movies. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and low-back lawn chairs for seating.
Fire crews put out a carport fire at an apartment at 5319 Peck Road in El Monte on Sunday. Flames damaged seven vehicles and extended into one unit of a two-story apartment, according to a City News Service report. The blaze displaced two people from the home, CNS wrote. Firefighters were dispatched to at 4:35 a.m. had the fire out at 4:51 a.m., they reported.
The La Verne Police Department has an opening for one part-time Communications Officer. Deadline for applications is noon on July 30. Applications are available at The La Verne City Hall, 3660 "D" St.

Researchers at the University of Nevada Las Vegas are warning fans that they found levels of lead high enough to cause concern in four Mexican salsa brands that are available in some parts of the U.S. If you’re looking around, you might want to look out for the brands that include El Pato Salsa Picante, Salsa Habanera, Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero and Bufalo Salsa Clasica, according to ABC News.
