Montclair Student Wins New Car for Perfect Attendance As Part of Partnership Between District and Metro Honda

MONTCLAIR – Michael Martinez, a junior at Montclair High School, didn’t miss a day of school this past year, and that helped win him a new car as of a part of a partnership between Metro Honda and the Chaffey Joint Union High School District to promote perfect attendance.

Michael’s name was chosen at random from among dozens of students who qualified under the first year of the program, driving away with a new Honda Civic.

“We are very excited to be a part of this,” said Metro Honda General Manager Jeff Proctor. “Education is critical for the future of the community and is absolutely critical in today’s workforce. We want to do all that we can in order to ensure that the next generation has all of the necessary tools to succeed in life. It’s the least we could do.”

Nearly 1,000 students, family members and onlookers were on hand for the May 17 “Keys 2 Success” event at Metro, 9399 Autoplex Drive in Montclair.

Martin Alvarado, principal at Montclair High, said the car giveaway was hyped throughout the school year and was an incentive for students. Ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th graders with perfect attendance during the most recent school year were eligible.

“Perfect attendance is directly aligned with student achievement. If you’re in the seat, you’re going to do better,” Alvarado said.
