Ontario Council Member Alan Wapner sworn in as Second Vice President for SCAG
Wapner played a lead role in SCAG's recently approved Regional Transportation Plan
Alan Wapner, a City Council member from Ontario, was sworn in May 5 as Second President of the Southern California Association of Governments.
Wapner had served as Transportation Policy Committee Chairman for SCAG, the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization, representing six counties, 191 cities and 18 million people. He was elected to his new position by SCAG’s Regional Council and will be sworn in for a one-year term during the opening of the association’s 2016 Regional Conference & General Assembly.
“We live in one of the fastest-growing region’s in the county, which presents tremendous challenges, but opportunities as well,” said Wapner, who has served on the Ontario City Council for more than 21 years. “SCAG’s role in addressing both – the challenges and opportunities – is critical, and I look forward to working with our leadership team and elected leaders throughout the region to set a positive course for the future.”

As Chairman of the Transportation Policy Committee, Wapner has played a key role in the development of SCAG’s recent Regional Transportation Plans/Sustainable Communities Strategies. The 2016-2040 RTP/SCS identifies $556.5 billion in transportation investments to meet the needs of a region that is expected to grow by 4 million people over the next quarter century.
In addition to his SCAG role, Wapner serves on the Board of Director of the San Bernardino Associated Governments and as President of the Ontario International Airport Authority.

Other newly sworn-in SCAG officers are Michele Martinez (President), a City Council member from Santa Ana, and Margaret Finlay (First Vice President), Mayor Pro Tem of Duarte. Cheryl Viegas-Walker, a City Council member from El Centro, moves to the role of Past President.
