Parolee Arrested In San Gabriel Valley

CLAREMONT, CA -- A parolee in Claremont was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, a police sergeant said Sunday. Officers conducting a traffic stop in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Towne Avenue last week reported detaining two suspects. A records check revealed that both men had several prior convictions for theft-related crimes and the driver was on probation for vehicle theft, said Claremont police Sgt. Hector Tamayo.

The passenger, according to Tamayo, was in possession of methamphetamine, heroin and syringes. Both men were detained about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Officers found pet flea and tick treatments, memory cards, and video games and controllers valued at $1,500, he said. It was later discovered that the merchandise had been stolen from a Walmart in Upland.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Gabriel Gonzales, 31, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, theft with prior convictions and two outstanding arrest warrants. His passenger, Antonio Gamez, 22, of Corona, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and theft with prior convictions.

Gonzales' was being held in lieu of $82,500 bail and Gamez was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
