Police: Security Guard Scares Off Would-Be Robber at Claremont Hotel

Police are now looking for the man suspected of entering the Double Tree hotel on Foothill Boulevard with the intent of robbing the place.

Claremont police were searching Thursday for a man who tried to rob a local hotel, but was scared off by its security guard.

The incident happened early Thursday morning, around 3:24 a.m., at the Double Tree Hotel at 555 W. Foothill Boulevard, just west of North Indian Hill Boulevard, according to Claremont Police Lt. Karlan Bennett.

"The suspect entered the Hotel lobby and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the Security Guard," Bennett said.

But the suspect didn't stay long.

"The Security Guard yelled at the suspect, causing the suspect to flee the location out the north lobby door, the lieutenant said.

When police arrived, they "conducted an extensive search" of the area, but could not locate the suspect, according to Bennett.  The man didn't get away with any property, though.

The suspect is described as a male, 5'10" tall, 180-200 lbs, and was wearing blue jeans, a blue sweatshirt, a blue full face mask, and gloves.   Anyone with information about the suspect or the crime was asked to contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.
