Police Talked Suicidal Person Off Pomona Overpass

The person was placed under protected custody pending a mental evaluation, police said.

POMONA, CA - Officers talked a suicidal person off a Pomona overpass Wednesday.

Dispatch received calls about 6:20 p.m. about a person threatening to jump from the overpass at First Street and East End Avenue, according to Pomona police.

Officers found the person holding onto the ledge of the overpass and when efforts to talk the subject down failed, members of the police department's Crisis Negotiation Team arrived and established communication, police said.

After about 30 minutes, the person came off the ledge and was taken into protective custody pending a mental evaluation, police said.
