Qunitana's 29 Points Not Enough; Bonita Falls to Walnut 58-57 in the Covina Tournament Semifinals

Joe Quintana scores 29 points for Bonita, but loses; Will play Cajon tonight for third place of the Covina Holiday basketball tournament

COVINA – Joe Quintana’s game-high 29 points was not enough as the Bonita Bearcats fell to the Walnut Mustangs 58-57 in the semifinal of the Covina Holiday tournament Monday night.

Quintana was the hero in Saturday night’s come from behind 65-63 win over Arlington on a last second shot, and had a chance to repeat the feat against Walnut, but he was met by a couple of Mustangs, including center Ryan Herrera, who promptly sent back Quintana’s attempt.

Quintana finished with the 29 points with two rebounds and two steals.    Tyler Poepping added nine points and three steals while Kyle Gray and Ashton McLaurin each tallied six points for Bonita.

Herrera finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four big blocks.  Zuri Williams led the way for the Mustangs, who will play for its second consecutive championship game, with 18 points and four rebounds and four assists.

Bonita plays Cajon tonight for third place.  Tipoff is at 7:00 pm
