Stork sixth grader Kurt Braun and third grader Jake Rieger (both pictured) are two of Stork’s diabetic students. Both serve as ambassadors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, speaking at public events about their condition and reaching out to newly diagnosed children.

Braun, Rieger and four other youth ambassadors from the Inland Empire recently met with Rep. Aguilar to share information about the efforts the JDRF is making to generate awareness about the disease (see photo). Aguilar was more than happy to accept an invitation to participate in the assembly to show support for the diabetic students and their efforts to raise money.

The school’s fundraising campaign opens with two separate assemblies on April 3 and concludes with a celebration walk on April 15. The opening assembly will also include a skit by the Stork student senate, a JDRF video and comments by each of the seven diabetic students, along with monthly student awards.

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, sponsoring $450 million in scientific research in 17 countries. The organization presents more than 200 fundraising walks every year. For more information, visit www.jdrf.org.
