San Dimas Stage Race Touches La Verne

La Verne's City Council is permitting the closure of one of its roads to allow the annual cycling race to go through. Hundreds are scheduled to participate.

Residents who use Puddingstone Drive be warned, the San Dimas Stage Race is returning and it will run through a section of the road.

Last month, La Verne’s City Council OK’d the closure of the eastbound lanes of Puddingstone Drive from Wright Avenue to Fairplex Drive and westbound lanes of Puddingstone from Wright Avenue between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. on March 23.

“The race is expected to draw up to 850 participants,” La Verne staffers wrote in a report. “Staff has, therefore, developed a standard agreement outlining the traffic control plan requirements, locations, schedule, estimated fees, applicant's responsibilities, and insurance and indemnification requirements.

The Southern California VELO Cycling Club sponsors the race. The San Dimas Stage Race was born as the Pomona Valley Stage Race in 2000, a 3-day stage race that was the brainchild of Rick Thomas, president of SC Velo at the time, according to a race history on the cycling club’s website.
