1 Dead In Concord Officer-Involved Shooting: Police
A 60-year-old man was fatally shot when officers found him straddling his elderly mother holding a knife, according to Concord police.

CONCORD, CA — A 60-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday by Concord police when he was found straddling his elderly mother while holding a knife, a spokesman for the Concord Police Department said.
The officer-involved shooting happened at 11:45 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Oasis Drive, Concord police Cpl. David Petty said in a news release.
Officers were dispatched to a home on Oasis Drive when the man's 85- and 90-year-old parents called police to report that their son was acting erratically and was possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Petty said.

Officers arrived and tried to talk to the man but he went back into the house, Petty said.

The man's elderly father then walked out of the house suffering from serious injuries, at which point officers decided to enter the home.
Once inside, the two officers saw the man straddling his mother while holding a knife.
The officers then drew their weapons and shot the man.
"Officers provided medical aid to both elderly victims and the man, but the 60-year-old son was pronounced dead at the scene," Petty said.
The elderly couple was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for injuries described by police as serious.
"Anytime force is used, it is tragic," Petty said. "Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time."
Personnel with the Concord Police Department and the city of Concord are working with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the incident.
The man's identity was not immediately released by Concord police, nor were the names of the officers involved in the shooting.
"More information will be provided as available," Petty said.
