🌱Affordable Housing On Blockbuster Lot + Pittsburg Bests De La Salle!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hello again, friends! I'm back with your new edition of the Concord Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town. In this issue, you'll get updates on...

  • Antisemitic flyers were found on some driveways in Walnut Creek.
  • Crockett residents are still being advised to stay inside and away from the fumes coming from the Crockett Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Antioch High alum and Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante is back in town with a new film!

But first, today's weather:

Clouds giving way to sun. High: 83 Low: 53.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Antisemitic flyers were left in the driveways of some homes in Concord and in Walnut Creek near Oak Grove Road last month. According to Walnut Creek's first Jewish mayor, Kevin Wilk, they are "awful, vile leaflets" that the community should not ignore. " [W]e must unite as one community to push back on this," he said. Similar leaflets were found in Danville earlier this year. (Patch)
  2. The old Blockbuster lot is getting a new lease on life. The City Council adopted a resolution to approve bonds that will allow the developer to break ground on the Argent apartment complex at 2400 Willow Pass Road. This development will be an affordable housing complex contributing 181 affordable units to the City of Concord's inventory. The project will break ground this year and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025. (Claycord.com)
  3. Four suspects who allegedly opened fire on a homeowner in Castro Valley when he interrupted them stealing his catalytic converter were spotted in Pleasant Hill during their getaway. The suspects reportedly ran from the scene before officers arrived. When officers did descend on the vehicle that matched the description from the Castro Valley scene, they found it full of catalytic converters. Unfortunately, it was not also full of suspects. They are still on the run. (News 24/680)
  4. Elevated levels of hydrogen sulfide are still emanating from the Crockett Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to officials. Residents are still being advised to take precautions and to stay inside as much as possible. Masks, according to authorities, are not an effective protection against the fumes. "CCH will release updated air quality data as it becomes available." (Claycord.com)
  5. "Pittsburg takes No. 1 spot over De La Salle." Wait. Pittsburg over De La Salle?? That's news! It's been 31 years since any North Coast Section team beat De La Salle. And, guess who it was? Yep. Pittsburg. Honestly, De La Salle will probably recapture the top spot but for now, bask in the glory, Pittsburg! You deserve it. (Scorebook Live)

Today in Concord:

  • STUNG (Tribute to Sting & The Police) will be at Retro Junkie in Walnut Creek. (7:00 PM)
  • Steve Trevino will make you laugh at Tommy T's in Pleasanton. (7:30 PM)
  • Painting with a Twist in Pleasant Hill presents "Spooky Love! Partner Painting." (I don't think you actually paint your partner - it's more like your paintings go together to form one.) (8:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • The El Campanil Theatre in Antioch is set to show the new movie, "Nix" this Saturday, October 15. "The director, Anthony C. Ferrante, is most known for "Sharknado" and was born and raised in Antioch and is a former Antioch High School graduate." (East County Today)
  • Contra Costa Musical Theatre presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!" The show will run on select dates Nov. 4 – 20. Tickets are available on the El Campanil Theatre website.
  • Registration is open for the Lafayette Res Run for Education, to be held Sunday, October 23. Beneficiaries of the event are the local schools and the services and programs of the Lafayette Chamber.
